Synchrotron radiation reflection topography was used to study the interaction of slip dislocations with the grain boundaries of Fe-4at%Si bicrystals that were deformed in compression. Three experimental settings, with either a white or monochromatic beam, were used and the corresponding orientation contrasts were analyzed. Dislocation transmission through the grain boundary was observed in bicrystals with a favorable geometry of the slip system. Transmission occurred when a certain number of dislocations had accumulated. This implied that the grain boundary formed a barrier even in this case of geometrically easy transmission.
