The behavior of H and He in membranes which were some microns in thickness was investigated by means of elastic recoil detection analysis; using 6MeV O-beams and 12MeV C-beams in transmission. The implantation of 4He into samples which contained a uniform concentration of about 0.1at%H was monitored. During the 4He implantation, an enrichment of the H concentration was detected at a depth which corresponded to the range of the implanted He. In the case of Nb, a reversible change in the H profile was observed during heating and cooling. The trapping energy of H in defects which were created by 10keV 4He-implantation of Nb at 500K was estimated to be 0.14eV.
