Transmission electron microscopy was used to characterize stacking faults and dislocations in the massive γ-phase which formed in 46at%Al alloy that was quenched from the a-phase field. The results showed that 1/2<101> unit dislocations, and stacking faults which were bounded by 1/6<121> Shockley partials of all possible types, were present in the quenched phase. In addition, antiphase boundaries were found to begin or end on the 1/2<101> unit dislocations. This was true of only some of the dislocations which bounded the stacking faults, and depended upon their precise sign.
