A review of boundary diffusion theory was presented, with the emphasis being placed upon the interpretation of the concentration profiles measured in diffusion experiments. The most important situations which were encountered in boundary-diffusion experiments were considered. These included diffusion in the B and C regimes, and diffusion in the presence of segregation. Recent progress in the atomistic interpretation of grain-boundary diffusion was also considered.
