A systematic investigation was made of the microstructures which resulted from simulations of over-damped dislocation dynamics. A quantitative assessment was made of the impact of various slip-system constraints and force-truncation schemes. It was shown that the degree of local ordering in these structures was related to the number of active slip planes. The microstructures which resulted from a common force cut-off scheme were compared with those generated by applying full periodic boundary conditions. It was found that the dislocation structure was quite sensitive to the choice of boundary conditions.
