Interdiffusion was studied by using a new technique which permitted the Hg pressure around the sample to be controlled. It was found that the Hg pressure did not have any clear effect upon the results. The compositional dependence of the interdiffusion coefficient (figure 2) was calculated by using the Boltzmann-Matano technique. The interdiffusion was more rapid than had been expected.
