A review of diffusion studies of this system was presented. It covered experimental studies of component self-diffusion and interdiffusion and a theory for the relationship between self-diffusion and interdiffusion coefficients for pseudo-binary systems. Diffusion mechanisms were proposed for Hg0.8Cd0.2Te. The mechanism of interdiffusion, and the relationship between self-diffusion and interdiffusion coefficients, were used to extrapolate experimental data to lower temperatures and to predict the stability of junctions and superlattices.
