The effect of (ruby) laser emission pulses (20ns) upon ZnxCd1-xSe solid solutions was studied. An increase in the conductivity and photosensitivity of irradiated samples was attributed to the formation of r-centers. These were metal vacancies which were balanced by shallow donor centers. It was noted that a layer with a wider forbidden gap formed in the sub-surf ace region after irradiation.
