The diffusion of Cr in alumina monocrystals was studied at temperatures ranging from 1000 to 1500C (table 2). The diffusion profiles were determined by using secondary ion mass spectrometry at depths of less than 1. Bulk diffusion coefficients were deduced from the initial parts of the profiles. The remaining parts of the profiles were explained in terms of dislocation-enhanced diffusion.
