The volume and grain boundary diffusion coefficients of O at 1673K in pure and Mg-doped alumina were studied. The bulk diffusivity in the pure material was equal to 8.24 x 10-22m2/s, while the grain boundary diffusivity ranged from 2.40 x 10-24 to 1.45 x 10-26 m3/s. The equivalent values for Mg-doped samples were 2.59 x 10-21m2/s, and from 7.55 x 10-26 to 5.73 x 10-25m3/s. It was noted that the Mg doping of alumina was useful for the homogenization of grain-boundary diffusion.
