The formation kinetics of an I intercalate were studied. It was found that up to one I atom per 2212 formula unit was incorporated into the structure. No second-stage compound formation was observed. The activation energy for the diffusion of I molecules in the interlayers of the intercalation compound was estimated to be equal to 45kJ/mol. The diffusion of Li into the structure was studied chemically and electrochemically, and was found to saturate at about y = 0.3 in Bi2Cu2Sr2CaLiyOx. The Li diffusion coefficient was of the order of 10-13cm2/s. A small expansion of the lattice was observed.
