The rate of Li diffusion in the layered intercalation compound, Li1-xNiO2, was studied by using electrochemical techniques. It was found that the maximum value of the chemical diffusion coefficient was equal to 2 x 10-7cm2/s (when 1-x was equal to 0.95). This was one of the highest values ever observed for such a compound. When the value of 1-x was between 0.5 and 1, the ions migrated via a vacancy mechanism.
