The parameters for O diffusion in Yb-stabilized zirconia, (1-x)ZrO2-xYbO1.5, were determined for x-values of between 0.148 and 0.230 by using quasi-elastic light-scattering. It was concluded that the diffusivity was greatest (4.2 x 10-6cm2/s) at an x-value of 0.165. It was deduced, from the compositional dependence of the activation energy, that O ion hopping occurred. It was also found that micro-domain and impurity associations played an important role in O ion migration.
