A wide range of glass compositions in this system was prepared, and direct- and alternating-current conductivity measurements were carried out. The presence of Pb led to a decrease in the direct-current conductivities and to an increase in the activation energies. This was attributed to an increase in the partial charges on the O atoms and to the presence of a lone pair on the Pb atom. Both factors were expected to impede Li-ion motion. The alternating-current conductivity and dielectric behaviours of the glasses also supported this suggestion.
