Semipermeable films of Y2O3-stabilized material, which were between 100 and 10000nm thick, were deposited onto porous α-Al2O3 substrates by using electrochemical vapor deposition. It was found that the coefficients for permeation through the composites, at 1000C, ranged from 9 x 10-9 to 5.5 x 10-8mol/cm2s; depending upon the film thickness. The rate-limiting step was bulk electrochemical transport in the grown films.
