The deviations in structure of B-doped vapour-grown fibres (diameter of about 10μm), with respect to their undoped counterparts, were investigated by using polarized microprobe Raman spectroscopy and field-emission scanning electron microscopy. It was found that B-doping encouraged the formation of dislocation loops in the surface. These combined into larger loops with increasing heat-treatment temperature.
