An investigation was made of the effect of cold plastic deformation and subsequent annealing upon the permeation of H through Fe, and Fe-1.6%Cr or Fe-3.5%Cr alloys. The results indicated that both the activation energy and pre-exponential factor increased with plastic deformation. The annealing of deformed specimens led to a recovery of the diffusion parameters which, in the case of the Fe-Cr alloys, took place in 2 stages. The first stage, whose temperature corresponded to the recovery temperature of the electrical resistivity, was associated mainly with processes of vacancy-relaxation type. The second stage was attributed to changes in the dislocation structure.
