Transparent solid-solution crystals of Sr(Ce,Zr)0.95Yb0.5O3 were grown by using the float-zone method in order to investigate proton conductivity in the mixed perovskite-type oxide. It was observed that there were at least 5 different O-H stretching vibrational modes in the solid solutions, and that their intensities and peak wave-numbers depended upon the contents of Ce and Zr. The conductivity data showed that these materials were proton conductors, as were SrCe0.95Yb0.5O3 and SrZr0.95Yb0.5O3. The conductivity went through a maximum at an x-value of 0.8 in Sr(CexZr1-x)0.95Yb0.5O3. The Raman spectra of the solid solutions suggested that the degree of lattice distortion was changed by adding SrZr0.95Yb0.5O3 to Sr(CexZr1-x)0.95Yb0.5O3.
