Bulk density and X-ray lattice parameter measurements showed that an earlier suggestion, that the constitutional vacancy was the predominant defect on the Nb-rich side, was not accurate. The constitutional defects on both sides of Cr2Nb stoichiometry were of anti-site type. Thermal vacancies which exhibited a maximum at the stoichiometric composition were detected in samples that were quenched from 1400C. These could be completely eliminated by annealing at 1000C.
