It was recalled that, in thin-sheet diffusion couples (due to an imbalance in volume transport), diffusion-induced internal stresses could develop and lead to bending of the diffusion couple. It was also noted that, in materials with high creep-rates, the curvature of the sample was proportional to the annealing time and to the concentration-averaged difference in the intrinsic diffusion coefficients.
