The energy of a screw dislocation near to a planar interface which separated 2 isotropic media of differing shear moduli was deduced from the work done by surface forces during dislocation creation. In addition to the term which was usually considered to arise from the cut across the material, account was taken of contributions from the inner and outer cut-off surfaces. The force on the dislocation which arose from the difference in elastic moduli did not diverge or vanish at the interface.
