A model was proposed for self-diffusion in L12-type A3B ordered compounds. In this structure, the atoms of the major element could diffuse on their own (α) sub-lattice, via the normal vacancy mechanism, without disturbing their ordered arrangement. In the case of atoms of the minor element, the same mechanism was possible for those atoms which were distributed, over the α sub-lattice, as antisite atoms. If the number of antisite atoms was not negligibly small, the long-range diffusion of B could be due largely to their migration over the α sub-lattice as impurity diffusion.
