A theoretical model was proposed which described the generation of misfit dislocations in film/substrate composites of wire form. Within the framework of the model, those ranges of the geometrical parameters (wire radius, film thickness, misfit parameter) of a wire composite were calculated at which the generation of misfit dislocations was energetically favourable. Specific features of the generation of misfit dislocations in wire composites were compared with those in conventional plate-like composites.
