The atomic structures and line energies of threading screw and threading edge dislocations in the wurtzite structure were calculated within the local-density approximation. It was noted that both types of dislocation were electrically inactive, with a band-gap that was free of deep levels. It was concluded that these features arose from relaxed core structures which were similar to (10•0) surfaces.
