The transformation of Te shallow donors into DX centers, under a hydrostatic pressure of 27.8kbar, was observed. The Te DX energy level at zero pressure was calculated to lie some 0.30eV above the conduction band at atmospheric pressure. The binding energy, at zero pressure, of the Te DX compared well with the value (0.21eV) which was calculated on the basis of a cation-cation bonded DX-center model. At pressures where the Te shallow donor to DX-center transformation had occurred, evidence was found for the existence of a bound phonon that was associated with the Te DX center.
