On the basis of the kink model, the diffusion of solute atoms which were situated at the kink, and at the extremities of the kink, was analyzed. The probability density or the distribution function of a solute atom at a given point on a kink chain was derived. It was found that this distribution function changed when the kink chain moved under an applied stress. The change in the total energy of the kink chain, and thus the transverse and longitudinal forces which acted upon the solute atom, were calculated. Equations were developed for the longitudinal and transverse core diffusion of solute atoms.
