A scanning tunnelling microscopic study was made of the surface structures which arose from the deposition of stable hydrogenated clusters, Si6H13+, onto (111)-(7 x 7). The clusters, which had a ring structure with sp3 bonding, were deposited onto (111) surfaces using a deposition energy of 18eV at room temperature. The clusters were preferentially adsorbed at the lower terraces of the steps. Few clusters were observed on the flat surfaces, thus showing that the cluster was mobile on the surface due to its weak interaction with (111).
