Advanced Ceramics are often exposed to very aggressive operating conditions. The improvement of such materials, and innovations in their production and processing methods are the driving forces behind the development of many industrial processes.
This monograph reviews the current scientific understanding of the processes which are involved, and analyses composition-structure-property relationships for highly corrosion-resistant materials such as:aluminamullitesilicon carbide and siliconised silicon carbidesilicidescomposites of the above. Also covered are the fundamental aspects of corrosion, treated as a system property, and variations in the corrosion resistance of a given material as a function of various process parameters. By taking account of the nature of the aggressive environment, basic relationships between a material's structure and properties are explored in each chapter; thus offering in-depth technical and scientific guidance concerning materials selection for applications involving highly oxidizing / corrosive environments.
