Abstract: An experimental study was carried out to investigate the effects of cutting parameters on cutting force and temperature in cutting of hardened W18Cr4V with PCBN cutter. Three components of cutting force were recorded by a strain-gauge dynamometer and the cutting temperature was measured by a nature thermocouple of tool-workpiece. The cutting parameters were arranged by orthogonal method. It is shown that the cutting temperature increased with each of the three cutting parameters and the main effecting factor is feeding speed. The three components of cutting force increased greatly with an increase in feeding speed and cutting depth. But the forces decreased a little as cutting speed increased. The main and axial cutting forces depend mainly on cutting depth whereas the radius force is mainly influenced by feeding speed.

Abstract: This paper presents the parameters optimization by TRIZ theory in the precision lapping of sapphire in order to realize the high efficiency and low damaged lapping. The TRIZ theory was used to optimize processing parameters of sapphire precision lapping based on much experimental data of lapping, then the conflict matrix of internal contradictions was set up and the optimization parameters was obtained. The result of experiment indicated that the face quality of sapphire was improved greatly after optimized by TRIZ. There was a conclusion that TRIZ theory can be used to optimize the processing parameters of sapphire precision lapping which is important to enrich the processing theory of sapphire.

Abstract: In order to resolve the problem of connecting rod notches machining, a new process of WEDM (Wire Electric Discharge Machine) has been presented, and it is greatly possible that expensive laser process can be replaced by WEDM in virtue of its unique advantages. Firstly, process parameters of notch have been analyzed, and project of machining notch using WEDM has been introduced, including measures to achieve good-quality notch. The relationship between cutting speed and power supply parameters has been investigated, and it is discovered that micro-crackle on bottom of notch are greatly effect to fracture splitting process, also new idea of active controlling micro-crackle has been presented. Finally, fracture splitting machining has been carried out. The cost and entrance standard of fracture splitting process are greatly dropped owing to new breakthrough of machining notch using WEDM.

Abstract: In this paper, Taguchi method was applied to design the cutting experiments when end milling Inconel 718 with the TiAlN-TiN coated carbide inserts. The signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio are employed to study the effects of cutting parameters (cutting speed, feed per tooth, radial depth of cut, and axial depth of cut) on surface roughness, and the optimal combination of the cutting parameters for the desired surface roughness is obtained. An exponential regression model for the surface roughness is formulated based on the experimental results. Finally, the verification tests show that surface roughness generated by the optimal cutting parameters is really the minimum value, and there is a good agreement between the predictive results and experimental measurements.

Abstract: High performance cemented carbide YG610 was adopted for remanufacture hardness deposited materials cutting experiment. The experiment results showed that the same conclusions can be drawn from two group orthogonal experiments. The influence order on cutting capability of cutting tools was: feed rate﹥cutting speed﹥ cutting depth. The cutting length of cutting tools increases monotonously with the feed rate decrease. And the effects by the cutting depth were comparatively small, which is almost negligible in hardness materials cutting. Therefore, low feed rate and large depth of cut are beneficial to keep cutting capability of cutting tools and improve manufacturing productivity. By the results of two orthogonal experiments and extreme deviation analysis, the optimal scheme for cutting parameters were achieved after calculating the best level of the factor.
