When cracks located at, or near, interface between materials with dissimilar material properties, the stress/strain fields ahead of crack are different from those in homogeneous materials [6].

The first investigated model was the material model mat spotweld, available in the FE software LS-DYNA [10].
This model was originally developed to model spot welds, and is a material model using beams and solid elements.
For modelling the materials, an anisotropic yield surface was used with the associated flow rule and an isotropic hardening law.
