Abstract: The changing ratio of modal curvature is proposed for damage recognition, and its ability of damage localization and damage quantitative has been studied in this paper. For testing the effect of damage recognition, two research parameters, the different section rigidity and the scope of damages, are included. And changing rules of the index with structure rigidity, constraints, and structure supporting system have been studied at the same time. The numerical analysis results indicated: The relation of linear increase exists between the changing ratio of modal curvature and the extent of damage, the changing slope of the index is bigger with the increase of damage extent; The boundary condition and the structure supporting system will affect the value of index; In the view of one special structure, case study should be carried to establish the relationship between value of index and the extent of damage.

Abstract: Based on available research results of precast segmental bridge pier, seismic performance of a continuous girder bridge with precast segmental bridge columns using match-cast dry joints was analyzed with the lumped plastic hinge method verified by experiment, the similarities and differences of seismic performance between the continuous girder bridge with precast segmental bridge columns and that of cast-in-placement reinforced concrete bridge columns were gained. Results show that the maximum displacement response of the continuous girder bridge with precast segmental bridge columns is bigger than that of the continuous girder bridge with cast-in-place reinforced concrete bridge columns. While for the residual displacement, the opposite is true. The reason is that the restoring force exists in the precast segmental bridge pier by the prestress strands. The concentrated plastic hinge method for cast-in-place reinforced concrete bridges could be used to bridges with precast segmental bridge columns.

Abstract: Microstructures, static weight loss and potentiodynamic polarization curves were carried out on the Friction-stir welds of Al clad 2524 alloy with the thickness of 1.35 mm. The results indicated that the microstructures of the Nugget had been remarkably reshaped. A dynamical recrystallization took place on the zone of the weld nugget and an equiaxed grain structure formed. The static weight loss and potentiodynamic polarization curves results indicated that the resistance of corrosion of the base material (with aluminum clad) was superior to that of its weld, but the anti-corrosive ability of the weld was superior to that of the base material without aluminum clad.

Abstract: Using supplemental energy dissipation devices into the structure to increase the damping ratio for reducing the responses of seismic activity has become more and more popular. This paper presents a case study of seismic retrofit strategy, utilizing a type of passive energy dissipation device, namely, the viscous damper, in order to make an ongoing chips produced facility resistant to seismic activity. The building in question was a chips produced facility belonging to a semiconductor manufacturing company. This was a double FAB where the structure system was divided into an island building and an RC shell. The retrofit involved installing 44 non-linear dampers between the island building and the RC shell. This was due to the significant differences in the fundamental vibration periods. This paper will present the rationale of making a decision on the parameters of the dampers to give the optimum retrofit strategy.
