Abstract: During wet season and dry season, the groundwater quality analysis results of one engineering site in Nanning indicated that the causticity of groundwater mainly included acid causticity (pH value), calcareous causticity (corrosive CO2) and leaching causticity (HCO3-). Though the twice analysis results of water causticity are both moderately corrosion, the types of decomposed corrosion are different. It indicated the uncertainty and changeability of decomposed corrosion. In actual projects, some special ingredients in groundwater, the site natural environment and hydrologic geologic conditions should be considered together to define the groundwater’s causticity. Moreover, the change of site hydrologic geologic conditions caused by the construction should be considered, because this change can also influence the groundwater’s causticity. In addition, the groundwater’s causticity will influence the selection of cement types and the type of cement will influence the type of foundation, then all these will influence the construction cost finally. So, the change of groundwater’s causticity caused by the site hydrologic geologic conditions should be considered at engineering design time.

Abstract: In Nanning basin, because of the peculiar relief and stratum model, the bearing support soil layers for pile foundation of high-rise buildings generally is gravel layer or mudstone layers or sandstone layers. On first or second terrace in basin, gravel layer is most chose as the bearing stratum for pile foundation of high-rise buildings. Static driven piles are commonly used in Nanning, because they have advantages of fast construction, high bearing capacity and noiseless despite costly. In this paper, the actual test data of a 32-stories apartment building of a college in Nanning has been consider- ed in detail. According to the present situation of project operations, the test results show that the piles which length is less than 6m can fully meet the design requirements. This project is a successful example.

Abstract: In the design of anchor bolt for slope reinforcement, determination of safety factor, anchorage length and free part length, choosing anchor-type were closely linked with the practical situation and experience of the designer. In this paper, in terms of above four aspects, some problems in the process of design have been discussed and corresponding solutions have also been put forward based on the codes and personal experience.

Abstract: In this paper, based on measured data of practical engineering, the characters of single short pile under the static vertical load action in the normal stratum combination model of dualistic structure has been simulated by using ABAQUS finite element software. Then simulated result and measured one has been compared and analyzed carefully. The analysis result indicated the applicability and reliability of ABAQUS finite element software in the simulation analysis of short pile. All these can provide some theoretical reference for design of short pile foundation.

Abstract: In karst area, geology condition is complex, karst phenomena develop, underground water is prolific, even underground river and channel exist, rock surface fluctuates up and down in a large level, which will seriously influence type of pile foundation, construction quality as well as pile foundation safety. Pile foundation construction is considerably difficult and severe hidden quality fault may occur. If rock-embedded end-bearing pile on hard rock or limestone can satisfy design requirement depends mainly on integrity of bedrock beneath pile end, pile body concrete quality and settled material beneath pile end, which are the key items for rock-embedded pile test. Using acoustic wave transmission method and core sample method, integrity of bedrock beneath pile end, pile body concrete quality and settled material beneath pile end can be tested, which can not only reflect quality and bearing capacity of single pile, but also assess bearing capacity of all foundation piles in the whole ground.

Abstract: The liquid soil stabilizer technology is a chemically modified method that can stabilize or reinforce those soils with weak engineering properties. In this paper, two typical high liquid limit soils ,which can not be directly used as subgrade materials,were treated with a new soil stabilizer and it were processed that serials of comparison test on the main engineer properties of soil that pre-and post-treated with soil stabilizer. Then the results show that the soil liquid stabilizer is effective to improve strength and moisture susceptibility for two selected soils. The liquid soil stabilizer technology opened up a new approach for soil improvement and ground treatment.

Abstract: Expansive soil is called as “problem soil”, which has a characteristic of swelling by absorbing water and shrinking by losing water. So buildings and sub-grade which are built on expansive soil, are easier to damage for lager deformation. Due to the large-scale urban construction, ground surface was covered in a wide range. For example, in tropics and subtropics areas, the water transfer in the expansive soil is influenced by the gradient of temperature, which is different between the central area under the road surface and road-side bare area. Because of the hysteresis of water transfer, the water content distributing is not uniform, which lead to the different swell-shrink performance in different zone, herewith will change some parameters of the expansive soil and finally affect its stress field and the displacement field. Take the road as the example: The road is a strip belt-shaped coverage. Both in dry and wet season, the thermodynamic field and water-flowing field is uneven between the central area under the road surface and road-side bare area, so the displacement field and the stress field on the cross-section under the road is uneven. Under the load of vehicle, the non-uniformity stress distributing in the soil is further aggravated, and the same to the displacement in the underlying sub-grade, which is a significant factor in aggravating the dehiscence of road surface. Comparing to general soil, expansive soil has a completely different distribution of temperate field and water-flowing condition because of its swell-shrink characteristic. By studying on the relationship between the thermodynamic field and the stress-strain in the expansive soil, it can find out how the climate affect the engineering expansive soil, and provide the theory basis for improving expansive soil.

Abstract: As a new pile type, short pile has been widely applied in many buildings especially high-rise buildings with good economic effect. However the theory of short pile has not been systematically established yet. In this paper, some interrelated theories and researches about short pile have been introduced include pile sinking theory, pile-soil interaction theory and settlement calculation research of pile foundation. At the end, some new directions of study about short pile have been pointed out.
