Abstract: We designed a new module of Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA) with fiber optical system, which is mainly comprised of a laser diode, optical fibers and a two dimensional (2D) photodetector. The fiber optical system involved a laser diode (VCSEL, Copax Inc.) with 850 nm wavelength, single mode fiber (Prime Optical Fiber Inc.), half coupler and two fiber collimators. The 2D photodetector made by silicon PIN photodiode is aligned between the two collimators with 39° beams cross angle and all the components were set into a rectangle case, which have coin’s size and can be accommodated by two same set of these components. We added anticoagulant and antiseptic into fresh chicken blood and diluted it with normal saline, and then put the diluted blood into a beaker with a motor in the liquid. The diluted blood was pumped by the motor into an aqueduct which is connected to glass aqueduct, and back to the beaker to form a circulation system. In the experiments, we evaluate the relationships among the blood cell velocity and diameter of glass tube, temperature variation of blood, and concentrations of blood. By analyzing the results of these experiments, the main factor that affects the precision of velocity measurement is the cross angle of two injected laser beams and the intensity of scattering light. The module constructed by optical fiber light can precisely measure the velocity of blood flow at most 5% error.

Abstract: Back-propagation network (BPN) has the advantage of simulating a nonlinear system that is difficult to describe by a physical model. This study introduces a back-propagation network methodology to estimate the accelerated life reliability. The environmental stresses and failure times are chosen as the input variables. An optimum prediction system is acquired by adjusting the number of neurons in the hidden layer and the output layer of neural networks. For a numerical example, the developed BPN architecture is applied to real accelerated life testing data of the STNLCD modules which are distributed as a Weibull distribution. By the research result, we can have the conclusion that the BPN methodology is practical to make the reliability inference with the advantages of self-learning ability even without mathematics models.

Abstract: Our new constructed LCM system with a near field fiber probe heated the thermoplastic polymer film which placed above the tissue section by focusing laser beam (810 nm), and this method improved the resolution of the dissection capture. In this study, we designed a new cap with a hole, which made the fiber probe exert close melting, and the optimal conditions of making the thermoplastic film adhere on the cap were also studied. We used a copolymer with ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) as the main material of the film and 0.001 M infrared naphthalocyanine dye dissolved in toluene were added and mixed for spin coating. The thermoplastic film was coated on a release agent sprayed substrate, and the new cap was placed on the substrate then put into the oven at 80 for one hour. After cooling to the room temperature, we got the thermoplastic film on the cap, and we investigated the effect of different thickness of the thermoplastic film. By using the LCM system with near-field fiber probe, the melted spots have successfully formed on the films, and the results showed that the melted size is related to the thickness of the film. According to the results of this study, the fiber probe was workable on the hollow cap with thermoplastic film, and these provided the further development of the new LCM system in nano-captures.
