Abstract: This paper presents a frequency response function method to measure the natural frequency of automotive engine valve springs with respect to different spring height. A new apparatus is developed for changing the spring height within the range of valve lift. The test results indicate that the natural frequency changing highly depends on the different pitch type of the spring. The measured natural frequencies of valve spring can be direct applied to the estimation of valve spring surge characteristics.

Abstract: In this paper, a cybernetic model of “driver-vehicle-road” closed-loop system including a driver model and a steering system model is built under the MATLAB/Simulink environment. Then, the influence of different dynamic characteristics of steering system on vehicle handling and stability is studied. The results suggest that the “driver-vehicle” model built has a high tracking precision in following the path; Increasing the rigidity of steering system or decreasing the dilatory distance of front tire can enhance the tracking precision and can minish the driving burden and the fatalness of side-tip, the total evaluation result of vehicle performance will be optimized as well.

Abstract: Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler plays an important role in reducing the nitrogen oxides (NOx) emission of diesel engines. By using the CFDesign software, in this paper, the finite element models are established for analyzing the thermodynamic performance of an EGR cooler. The temperature, velocity and pressure fields of the fluids in the EGR cooler are simulated and verified. Based on these models, furthermore, the thermodynamic performance of the EGR cooler with different structures of cooling tube are analyzed, compared and discussed. The results show that, under the fixed pressure boundary conditions, the EGR cooling efficiency can be significantly increased by properly design the fin number of the cooling tube in EGR coolers.
