Abstract: this paper mainly studies the craft on how to produce viscose by using hemp fiber and affection of the process on the original property of the hemp. Meantime, the authors test and analyze the property of viscose fiber after the spinning process. The result shows that the crystallinity, and orientation degree of the culm of hemp are low. And the physical performance of hemp viscose is better than that of ordinary cotton viscose.

Abstract: Two groups of silicon carbide ceramics were prepared by pressureless sintering processing with a small amount of boron and carbon as sintering additives. The flexural strength, Vickers hardness, fracture toughness and compressive strength of the samples were measured and compared. Sample A achieved much higher flexural strength (389.4MPa) than that of sample B (250.3MPa) due to the difference of additive dosage. However, the two groups of samples attained comparable values for the other three mechanical properties. SEM observation revealed that the stoichiometric ratio of the Si/C atom in the sintered body is an important factor to affect the mechanical performance of the silicon carbide. The ballistic performance of the samples was also evaluated in this study. The results showed that sample B exhibited more excellent ballistic property, which is probably related to the high flexural strength. The detailed influencing factors need to be studied further.

Abstract: Micro-hardness is one of the most important mechanical properties for bullet-proof ceramics. The micro-hardness of typical and commercial available bullet-proof ceramics alumina, silicon carbide and boron carbide were studied in this paper. The result indicated that the high ballistic performance (protection coefficient) was mostly attributed to the high micro-hardness of the ceramics. The ballistic protection mechanics of the ceramics was analyzed based on the ceramics’ hardness, structures and protection coefficients.

Abstract: Filtration medium is one of the most important parts of air-filtration. A Micro-filtration membrane made by expanded poly-tetra-fluoric-ethylene (ePTFE) was introduced in the dust removal process in our previous work. Compared with conventional fabric media, ePTFE membrane has many advantages, such as low residual pressure drop and high efficiency of dust removal, etc., because of its characteristics of micro-porous structure and slippery surface. More importantly, the useful life of ePTFE membrane is longer and the operating costs are lower during the surface-filtration process. In this paper, the residual pressure drop of the ePTFE micro-filtration membrane and conventional needle-felts fabric filtration medium were compared. The results clearly show that the residual pressure drop of the conventional filter medium increases after several filtration cycles, but that of the ePTFE membrane remains constant.
