Abstract: Due to its simple structure, low consumption of energy but strong driving forces, Electrowetting on Dielectric (EWOD) is used most frequently in digital microfluidics for manipulation and control of droplets. In this paper, the internal mechanism of EWOD is explained though establishing the geometric model of unipolar board structure digital microfluidic chip. The digital simulation software COMSOL Multiphysics is applied to analyze the coupling fields. The results show that external flow velocity of micro-droplet is greater than the internal velocity. Based on the theoretic analysis, surface micromachining technologies are employed to fabricate the single-plate EWOD chip. Finally, an experiment platform is set up to test this chip. Experimental results show that 2μL droplet can be driven in velocity of 10cm/s and two droplets can be merged successfully. It will possibly provide an effective solution to the manipulation of droplets.

Abstract: A hierarchical mobile robot simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) method that allows us to obtain accurate maps of large environments is proposed. The local map level is composed of a set of local metric feature maps that are guaranteed to be statistically independent. The global level is a topological graph whose arcs are labeled with the relative location between local maps. An estimation of these relative locations is maintained with local map alignment algorithm, and more accurate estimation is calculated through a global minimization procedure using the loop closure constraint. The local map is built with Rao-Blackwellised particle filter (RBPF). The particle filter is used to extend the path posterior by sampling new poses that integrate the current observation which drastically reduces the uncertainty about the robot pose. The landmark position estimation and update is also implemented through Kalman filter. Omnidirectional vision mounted on the robot tracks the 3D natural point landmarks, which are structured with matching Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) feature pairs. The matching for multi-dimension SIFT features is implemented with a KD-Tree. Experimental results on real robot in a medium size, real indoor environment show the practicality and efficiency of our proposed method.

Abstract: During processing, the interaction among the multi-parameters which influences the coating surface roughness is very complex. In order to gain rapidly the best parameters, this paper raises the method to optimize parameters of the micro arc oxidation based on the orthogonal design and the support vector machine regression analysis. The experiments were performed for the coating surface roughness according to the parameters designed by orthogonal on LD10. And then, the support vector machines regression was used to obtain the model between the surface roughness and the parameters according to these data. Further, the model optimized the parameters and predicted the corresponding coating with Ra1.025μm. At last, the model was verified by the experiments of single factor method under the same condition as the orthogonal experiments. The results, comparative analysis of the surface roughness of predicting and actual values generated by the same parameters, shows that the square error and the ratio of the average error influenced by the parameters expect for the temperature is less than 0.1 and 10% respectively, and the actual coating with Ra1.199μm was obtained that the parameters optimized by the model treated.

Abstract: With the development of micro arc oxidation and the growing maturity of the industrialization, the electrolyte service life and stability attract more and more people. In this paper, the electrolyte service life was researched. Under the same technological conditions, it was found that the critical factors affecting the electrolyte service life are the single-processing area and the electrolyte volume. With prolonging the working time of the electrolyte, the gel deposition mass in the electrolyte and the initial voltage always change. The experiment indicates that the electrolyte service life will assume the curve extension when reducing the single-processing area or increasing the solution volume. To some extent, the initial voltage and gel deposition can indicate the active state of the electrolyte, and can be considered as the sign whether the electrolyte service life becomes due.

Abstract: This paper presents a hybrid type of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) microgripper integrated with an electrostatic mechanism and vacuum technology. Vacuum tools are integrated in this microgripper in order to achieve a reliable and accurate manipulation of microobjects. The microgripper is fabricated by a surface and bulk micromachining technology. The pick and release micromanipulation of microobjects is accomplished by electrostatic driving force caused by comb structure and an auxiliary air pressure force from air pump. The performance of this new hybrid type of microgripper is experimentally demonstrated through the manipulation of 100–200μm polystyrene balls. Experimental results show that this microgripper can successfully fulfill the pick and release micromanipulation.
