Abstract: With the changes of domestic environmental policy, the curriculum provision of environmental engineering should be continuous improved. This paper analyzes the current teaching situation of environmental engineering and brings up rationalization proposals. According to the found problems of theory course, experimental course and practical training, it is very necessary to adjust the training program and curriculum system of environmental engineering. The specific measures are adding some new courses to teaching system, and changing the assessment methods. There are different characteristics among theory course, experimental course and different courses, so the teaching methods and assessment methods are different, too.

Abstract: Volatilization of diesel oil in sand columns was conducted at the ambient temperature of 20 °C by spilling oil on the sand surface. The weight loss of oil was determined by pre and post weight of the sand columns and desiccant was measured on an electronic balance. The aim of this paper was to investigate the effect of moisture content on the volatilization of diesel oil in sand. The results show that the diesel oil and water in sand both volatilize at a linear rate with respect to time. The largest volatilization mass of diesel oil and water reach when the moisture contents are 8% and 20% respectively. Appropriate water content can help to pull the oil contaminants to the surface of the sand.

Abstract: The volatilization process of oil with uniform size media as underlying material was studied. The weight loss of oil was determined by subtracting the columns’ pre and post weight measured on an electronic balance. The results show that the gasoline in porous media volatilizes at a logarithmic rate with respect to time, and the diesel oil in porous media volatilizes at a rate which can be best modelled as a square root of time. The volatilization coefficient of gasoline increases with the increment of particle size, and it of diesel oil decreases with increment of particle size. Binomial equation and power equation can describe the relationships of gasoline and diesel oil volatilization coefficients with mean grain size respectively.

Abstract: The IFT has been investigated for an interfacially reactive immiscible system composed of oil and water. Ring tensiometry was employed to measure the IFT between the two phases. The results show that the IFT decreases at a linear rate with respect to temperature and the binomial equation can express the reducing trend of the IFT with contact time. The oil-water IFT presents a reduction at both high and low pH. The IFT of diesel engine oil-water and diesel oil-water reach lowest values under acidic and alkaline condition respectively. The IFT of diesel oil-water decreases by 19.2% and the IFT of diesel engine oil-water descends by 11.2% when the concentration of calcium chloride in aqueous solution is 0.2mol/L.

Abstract: Oil-contaminated pillars were prepared by spilling oil on soils’ surface. The weight loss of oil was determined by subtracting the pillars’ pre and post weight measured on an electronic balance. The aim of this paper was to investigate the change of oil’s volatilization mass in soils with time. The results show that the gasoline in soils volatilizes at a logarithmic rate with respect to time, and the diesel oil in soils volatilizes at a rate which can be best modelled as a linear of time. The volatilization coefficient of gasoline in grit exceeds that in loam, while the volatilization coefficient of diesel oil in loam is from 2.0 to 2.5 times higher than that in grit. Oils’ volatilization coefficients increase with the increase of oil content. Linear equation and binomial equation describe the relationships of gasoline’s and diesel oil’s volatilization coefficients with oil content respectively.

Abstract: Environmental monitoring is one special and basal course of environmental engineering. This course has the characteristic of theory and practice, and there are some problems in teaching practice. The paper optimizes the course in three fields, such as teaching content of theory, teaching content of experiments and teaching methods. The object of course reforms is that students can grasp and understand the course contents well, at the same time they can improve the ability of innovation and solving problems.

Abstract: Red mud as environmental restoration materials has the characteristics of low cost, simple process and controlling waste by waste. The paper introduced the application of red mud on heavy metal contaminated water and soil in details. Powdered or granular red mud both has good adsorption efficiency of Cu , Zn, Pb, Ni, Ca, Cd, As and other heavy metal ions in wastewater. Langmiur or Frendlich model can express the adsorption isotherm of red mud on heavy metal ions. Red mud can not only solidify the heavy metals in soils, but also increase the soil microbial activity and population types. At the same time, de-alkali treatment can not be ignored in the process of using red mud avoiding the second pollution to environment, and achieve the zero pollution release of red mud.
