Abstract: A series of test for the fatigue crack growth rate da/dN and the threshold ΔKth values were performed with CT specimens on a ship-condenser material titanium alloy plate and rolled ring. Base metal, welded joint and HAZ (heat affected zone) materials were used to make different test specimens. Specimens made from the titanium plate were cut along L-T direction, those made from rolled ring were obtained along C-R and L-R direction respectively. Results show that the fatigue crack growth rate value of welded joint is much higher than those of base metal and HAZ material. The da/dN values of C-R direction specimens are much higher than those of L-R direction specimens, whereas the ΔKth values are lower. It means that welding process may lead to a great reduction in the fatigue property for titanium alloy and the effect of crack orientation on fatigue property is not negligible for titanium alloy. To select a proper orientation of titanium material is therefore very important in engineering practice. Results also indicate that a simplified method can be used to calculate the ΔKth values for titanium material, that is, ΔKth values may be calculated directly from the da/dN expression in a zone near the threshold and the laborious measurements of ΔKth may therefore be saved.

Abstract: The phase constitution, mechanical properties, and corrosion behavior of TiMoSn alloys were investigated by means of XRD, tensile test, electrochemical measurement and XPS techniques. The XRD analysis results showed that at room temperature TiMoSn alloys are mainly composed of β phase, with minor content of α" phase, in as-cast and solid solution treated conditions. The tensile test results indicate that the elastic moduli of the Ti-Mo-Sn alloys are in the range of 52~74GPa. The electrochemical measurement results indicate that TiMoSn alloys have excellent corrosion resistance in simulated body fluid. The XPS analysis results reveal that the passive films of TiMoSn alloys after polarization consist of TiO2, SnO2 and Mo2O5.

Abstract: Recently, people devote to the development of Ni-free shape memory alloys in order to avoid the Ni-hypersensitivity and toxicity and pursue absolute safety. The shape memory effect and superelasticity have been reported in the biomedical Ti-Nb based alloys. The purpose of this paper is to report the phase constitution, tensile property, shape memory effect and corrosion resistance of the Ti-Nb alloys. The phase constitutions of the Ti-Nb alloys are investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results reveal that β+α′′ phases are presented in the Ti-35Nb alloy and only β phase in the Ti-52Nb alloy at room temperature. The tensile test and bending tests indicate that the Ti-35Nb alloy exhibits shape memory effect. The shape recovery ratio is near to 80% when the bending strain is 4.4% and decreases with the increase of the total bending strain. The corrosion resistance of the Ti-Nb alloys in the Hank's solution and artificial saliva (pH=7.4) at 37 are investigated by OCP, Tafel and anodic polarization methods. The results indicate that the Ti-35Nb alloy has a better corrosion resistance in the artificial saliva and can replace the Ti-Ni alloy in the dental application. In the non-oral condition, the Ti-52Nb alloy may be preferable.

Abstract: In the course of the milling experiments with the difficult-to-machine material 3Cr-1Mo-1/4V steel, we have found the substance of the adhering disrepair. In addition, we forecast the predominant capability of the waved-edge milling insert with complex 3-D grooves by the synthetically blurry judgement. Eventually, we give the mathematical model between the milling temperature and the maximal adhering disrepair depth of the rake face, and analyze the rule that the milling temperature affects the adhering disrepair. What’s more, we testify the predominant capability of the waved-edge milling insert.
