Abstract: CdSe/ZnO core/shell semiconductor nanocrystals which show high luminescence quantum yield have been synthesized through a simple routine without the use of any pyrophoric organometallic precursors. Transmission electron microscope image demonstrates the shape, monodispersity, average size, size distribution and core-shell structure of CdSe/ZnO nanocrystals. We use a combination of X-ray diffraction, UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and photoluminescence to analyze the core/shell nanocrystals and determine their chemical composition, optical character and internal structure.

Abstract: This paper reports a low-cost NaSrBO3: Eu3+ red phosphor. It was synthesized by sol-gel method. The effects of preparation conditions and doping concentrations on the optical properties were investigated. The structure, photoluminescence properties, thermal stability of Eu3+-doped NaSrBO3 were examined. NaSrBO3: Eu3+ emits a bright red color centered at 611 nm, which originates from5D0-7F2 transition of Eu3+. The PL intensity reaches the maximum at 2at.%. The prepared NaSrBO3: Eu3+ phosphor shows a better thermal stability under high temperature.

Abstract: This paper reports the spectral variation of Sr3SiO5: Ce3+, Li+ phosphor. It was synthesized by the conventional solid state method. The effects of calcining temperature and codoption of Mg2+ and Ba2+ on phase composition, structure, photoluminescence and thermal stability were firstly investigated in detail. Under the near-UV excitation of 415 nm, Sr3SiO5: Ce3+, Li+ emits a bright greenish-yellow color centered at 532nm, which originates from 5d to 4f (2F7/2 and 2F5/2) transition of Ce3+. The PL spectra show the different emission color variation with substituting Sr2+ cations with smaller Mg2+ or larger Ba2+, which makes it be applied as a color-tunable phosphor for LED based on near-UV chip/phosphor technology. Simultaneously, the thermal stability of (Sr,Ba)3SiO5: Ce3+, Li+ phosphor is improved markedly.

Abstract: We have developed a new, simple, green and very reproducible aqueous synthesis method for the preparation of different sizes CdTe QDs without the use of any pyrophoric organometallic precursors. Transmission electron microscope image demonstrates the shape, monodispersity, average size and size distribution. Two different sizes CdTe QDs are mixed and standing for three months in aqueous solution. Through UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and fluorescence spectrum detection, we confirm Ostwald ripening process can also occur in CdTe QDs mixed solution for a long time at room temperature.

Abstract: Titania/organically modified silanes (ormosils) organic-inorganic hybrid thin films doped with azobenzene small molecules are prepared by a low temperature sol-gel spin-coating process for optical switch applications. Acid-catalyzed solutions of γ-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane and methyltrimethoxysilane mixed with tetrapropyl orthotitanate are used as matrix precursors. Atomic force microscopy is used to study the morphological properties of the hybrid thin films. Results indicate that crack-free thin films with a thickness of about 1.3μm can be obtained by a single spin-coating process after a low heat treatment temperature. The propagation mode properties of the hybrid thin films are also studied by employing a prism coupling technique. The photo-responsive properties of the hybrid films baked at different temperatures are induced by an irradiation with UV light and subsequent visible light.
