Abstract: Abstract:Aluminum matrx composites reinforced by in situ ZrB2 particles are fabricated from A356-AlB-K2ZrF6 system via in-situ melt reaction method, and the morphologies, sizes and distributions of the in situ particles as well as the microstructures, mechanical mechanisms of the composites are investigated by XRD,SEM,TEM and tensile tests. The results indicate that the morphologies of the in situ particles are mainly with ball-shape, the sizes are in nanometer scale and the distributions in the matrix are uniform. The interfaces between the in situ particles and the aluminum matrix are net and no interfacial outgrowth is observed.

Abstract: The aim of this research work is to study the influence of wear parameters on the adhesive wear behaviour of aluminium matrix composites (AMCs). It consists of A413 aluminium alloy as the matrix material and particulate fly ash of 3%, 6% and 9% by weight as the reinforcement material. Stir casting technique was used to fabricate the AMCs. The distribution of the fly ash particles in the matrix phase was investigated using the SEM image. The wear tests have been carried out using a pin on disc machine according to the ASTM G99 – 05 specifications. Wear surfaces were analysed using the images captured through Video measuring machine. It was found that load has the highest influence on wear rate followed by sliding distance, sliding speed, and weight percentage of reinforcement.

Abstract: The article presents the results of the first phase of research on the development of manufacturing composites by pilot-scale technology. Producing of composite suspension in sufficient quantity to obtain approximately 50 casting pistons in one production cycle was the aim of this study. This allowed to assess the stability of the composite suspension manufacturing process and above all stability the casting process. Composite suspension (AlSi7Mg/SiCp and heterophase SiCp+Cg ) were prepared in one technological cycle including refining and modification of the alloy matrix, the introduction of ceramic particles and the homogenization of the suspension under reduced pressure. Objective of this study was to determine the basic parameters of the suspension of the manufacturing process, such as metal refining period, the rate of particles introduction and time of homogenization. In addition, as a evaluation criterion of quality the manufactured composite material accepted the possibility of pre-cast piston machining.

Abstract: Roller burnishing process was applied to Al2O3/A356 composite specimens. The process was carried out on vertical milling machine. Effects of the burnishing process with varying process parameters on the characteristics of the machined surface and sub-surfaces were investigated. Residual stress distribution at different depths beneath the burnished surfaces, microhardness distribution, surface roughness were used as criteria to obtain the optimum burnishing conditions that give burnished surfaces with high integrity for the Al2O3/A356 composite. Results showed an improvement in surface characteristics of Al2O3/A356 composites using burnishing process. The better surface roughness was obtained with double passes burnishing, depth of penetration of 0.12 mm, and burnishing speed of 72 mm/min. Increase of number of burnishing passes increases the value of residual compressive stress and the microhardness at the burnished surface and subsurface. The microhardness slightly decreased with the increase of burnishing speed.

Abstract: CNT-reinforced aluminum matrix composites was produced by high-energy ball milling, the effect of rotary speed and milling time on the particle size distribution,the density and hardness of CNT-aluminum matrix composites were studied,it was observed that the rotary speed and milling time have an important effect on the mechanical properties of the CNT-aluminum matrix composites.

Abstract: Lightweight composite materials like aluminium-matrix composites (AMC) have been applied in many different sectors such as aerospace industry, automobile production, or power-electronics. As a special group of composites, AMCs produced by ECAE (equal-channel angular extrusion) feature a very high strength due to a very fine-grained structure. But they are very temperature-sensitive. Therefore, an adapted joining technique is required. In this regard, soldering offers some advantages in comparison to other joining processes like welding or bonding. Because of their low melting range below 300 °C, Sn-based filler metals are suitable for this purpose; Ag and Cu are the common alloying elements. The low strength and creep resistance of the joints are disadvantageous features. By the development of Sn-based composite fillers, an improvement of these properties can be achieved due the addition of ceramic reinforcing particles like Al2O3 or SiC. Investigations into the formation of an interfacial reaction layer between reinforcing particles and filler matrix were carried out. Ti as active element was alloyed to improve the bonding between matrix and particles. The microstructure observed by SEM has been correlated with the results of the tensile tests.

Abstract: The central problem of producing of Al/SiCP composites is to avoid the forming of brittle Al4C3, which leads to a poor corrosion resistance and degraded mechanical properties [Mingyuan, 1999]. The possible way is the covering of the SiC particles. This paper deals with the covering of SiC. The coated particles will be applied for producing aluminium matrix composites. We have covered three different grain sizes of particles. We have applied the nonelectrolytic method of deposition from solution for coating. Before the covering the surface needs to be catalysed. We have compared the effects of different type of catalysators, then we have analysed the effects of plating time by means of the scanning electron microscopy.

Abstract: The creep behavior of particulate Al-5vol.% SiC composite was investigated. The composite powder was produced by mechanical milling and hot extruded at 450°C at the ratio of 16:1. A creep test was carried out at a constant load at 598, 648, and 673 K. Using the existing equations proposed for the steady-state creep of metals, the threshold stress and the stress exponent of the creep as a function of temperature were determined. The stress exponent was found to be 3 at the temperature of 673 K and 8 at the lower temperatures, i.e. 598 and 648 K. The dependency of the threshold stress to temperature obeys the Arrhenius relationship with the energy term of 29 kJ mole-1.
