Abstract: In this paper a novel method for estimating state of charge (SOC) of lithium ion battery packs in battery electric vehicle (BEV), based on state of health (SOH) determination is presented. SOH provides information on aging of battery packs and it declines with repeated charging and discharging cycles of battery packs, so SOC estimation depends considerably on the value of SOH. Previously used SOC estimation methods are not satisfactory as they haven’t given enough attention to the decline of SOH. Therefore a novel SOC estimation method based on SOH determination is introduced in this paper; trying to compensate the deficiency for lack of attention to SOH. Real time road data are used to compare the performance of the conventionally often used Ah counting method which doesn’t give any consideration to SOH with the performance of the proposed SOC estimation method, and better results are obtained by the proposed method in comparison with the conventional method.

Abstract: According to the features of lithium ion battery packs, a distributed battery management system (BMS) for battery electric vehicle (BEV) is designed in this article. The BMS consists of a master module with several sampling modules. The kernel of master module is TMS320C2812 digital signal processor, and the kernel of sampling module is P87C591 singlechip. The main functions of master module include estimation of state of charge (SOC) and security management of lithium ion battery packs, and the main functions of sampling module include battery information collection and CAN bus based communication. SOC estimation method based on Extended Kalman filtering (EKF) theory is adopted in this article to precisely estimate the SOC of lithium ion battery packs.

Abstract: This paper presents a dynamic modeling, simulation, and analysis of a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) according to vehicle dynamic characteristics. Mathematical model variants for the components of BEVs can be modeled and investigated using the Matlab/Simulink software. In order to compare the dynamic performance of BEVs under inverter fault and normal conditions, the CarSim co-simulation platform is configured with real vehicle calibration data. Using this approach, it was possible to quickly check for dynamic performance issues of an electric vehicle without incurring the time delay and cost. The simulation results such as motor output, vehicle speed/acceleration, and propulsion forces are discussed and compared for each drive mode.

Abstract: Political pressure on the automotive industry will lead in future to an increasing electrification of the powertrain. The new components require the development of new vehicle control systems and control functions. Due to the high complexity of such systems the mechatronical development process including Model in the Loop (MIL), Software in the Loop (SIL) and Hardware in the Loop (HIL) simulation has been established. In this paper, a HiL test rig is presented, which has high flexibility and supports the model based development of control systems for battery electric vehicles at all levels.

Abstract: For an efficient design process of complex mechatronic systems a continuous and verification-orientated model-based methodology with Model-in-the-Loop (MiL), Software-in-the-Loop (SiL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) simulation is suitable. Using such an approach the real-time capable nonlinear multi-body system model of the entire vehicle with the electric power train and the identification of the physical parameters are described. A continuous appliance of the introduced model is a contribution for the frontloading and guarantees a time and cost efficient mechatronic design approach.

Abstract: Based on producing and manufacturing process of key components, a light-duty battery electric passenger vehicle was selected as a research object, and the energy consumption and environmental emissions from raw materials production, electric vehicle manufacture and operation process in depth were analyzed. The results showed that, the energy consumption for the whole life cycle of EV was 438GJ. The production and operation process of EV accounted for 18.5% and 81.5%, respectively. The GHGs (including CO2, CH4 and N2O) emission was 39.3tCO2-eq. The production and operation processed of EV account for 17% and 83%, respectively. Five kinds of other gases emissions from the production and operation process of EV were as follows: 305kg SOx, 206kg NOx, 133kg PM, 69.3kg CO, and 14.6kg NMVOCs. The production and manufacture of key parts and components account for the largest share of the total energy consumption and environmental emissions. Battery system is in the next place, while motor system is least.

Abstract: Battery electric vehicle is to be researched and developed as the best alternative for fuel vehicle. Dynamic performance is the basic performance of a vehicle. In the prior period of research and development, studying on the sensitivity of relevant parameters to dynamic performance can determine the degree of influences that the relevant parameters have on it. This paper establishes mathematical model for the dynamic performance of battery electric vehicle, and deduces computational methods of the dynamic parameters sensitivity. Improving these parameters will provide the basis for improving the dynamic performance of battery electric vehicle.
