Abstract: Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) issue is gaining more attention as the result of proliferation of electrical and electronic devices. In order to reduce the exposure to EMI, shielding and absorbing materials are often applied. This paper discussed the process of forming the nickel-zinc ferrite as one of the absorbing material by mixing the nickel nitrate, zinc nitrate and iron (III) nitrate together. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and dielectric measurement are carried out to reveal the characteristic of the specimen. The sintering temperature determines the formation of a pure spinal nickel-zinc ferrite and grain size.

Abstract: Oxyfluoride phases have been synthesized in free atmosphere, using the initially synthesized perovskite BaTiO3 and the fluorides NaF and MgF2. The purity of BaTiO3 and oxyfluorides has been checked by X–Ray diffraction (XRD).The microstructures of these phases are observed by scanning electron microscopy. The phase transitions have been investigated by dielectric measurements and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).

Abstract: Lactate is known to be an indicator of neurological impairment during aortic aneurysm surgery. It is suggested that analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) removed during such surgery could provide useful information in this regard. Medical professionals find the prospect of online detection of such analytes exciting, as current practice is time consuming and leads to multiple invasive procedures. Advancing from the current laboratory based analysis techniques to online methods could provide the basis for improved treatment regimes, better quality of care, and enhanced resource efficiency within hospitals. Accordingly, this article considers the use of a low power microwave sensor to detect varying lactate concentrations. Microwave sensors provide a rapid non-invasive method of material analysis, which is robust, cost-effective, and has huge potential for a wide range of biomedical applications.
