Abstract: In solving non-linear inverse optimization problems, how to make sure one and only solution and cut down computational effort are two very representative challenges. As thus, the derivative-free filled function method is proposed, it couples the classical filled method theory and dynamic canonical descent method. The application results of non-linear inverse analysis of material parameters for a practical engineering show that the derivative-free filled function method can quickly solve non-linear inverse problems with one and only solution, and it will be robust one in non-linear inverse solution field.

Abstract: In the present paper a nonlinear analysis is presented for the retrofitting of a Reinforced Concrete (RC) building by increasing the cross sections of some columns and by considering the effects of the confined concrete in the nonlinear model. The adopted design methodology is based on a displacement based approach in order to ensure the compatibility condition between the displacement capacity of the structure and the displacement demand according to the seismic codes. The displacement demand is achieved through the increase of the cross section of the RC columns with a consequent increase of the lateral stiffness of the existing structure. In the case of the retrofitted columns the disposition of the reinforcement makes realistic to consider the beneficial contribution of the confinement action of the transversal reinforcement with respect to the internal core. Consequently in the nonlinear analysis the influence of the confined concrete has been considered in the definition of the proper constitutive law for the retrofitted columns. An analysis of the beneficial effects of this confinement action on the nonlinear capacity curve of the structure is described and details are illustrated on the possible ways to take into account the confinement action in the verification of the inelastic behavior of the retrofitted structure.

Abstract: Based on the object-oriented finite element analysis software OpenSEES, a hinged 3-floor 2-span, SRHSHPC frames numerical simulation model was built up, under low cycle loading. Comparing the numerical simulation results with experimental data, the results show that four Gauss integral points of the Nonlinear Beam-Column Element with fiber - model can get best simulation effect. This study can provide theory basis for the SRHSHPC frames numerical simulation and the development of seismic performance.

Abstract: A new solution to geometrically nonlinear problems is presented. It has been found that the deflection curve equation expressed in terms of geometrical parameters for a compressed bar is a result of superposition by an Euler’s curve for two-force member in buckling equilibrium and a deformation equation for two-force member in stable equilibrium. Corresponding with the superposition of deflection curves, the load case of the compressed bar is divided into an axial force with a moment and an axial force with a shear force applied to the two-force member respectively. The analytic principle and the deflection curve equation for compressed bars can be applicable to geometrical nonlinear analysis or buckling problems, which is called analytical methods. The decision rule for the equilibrium property of the deflection curve expressions is presented. Practical applications of analytical methods show that some brief formulas can be obtained in the load case without shear forces.

Abstract: Compliant mechanisms fulfil a desired force and displacement characteristic. The development of such structures having a defined kinematical motion and subjected to several constraints, like deformability, stiffness and activation force is highly challenging. The present work deals with a methodology for analysing compliant mechanisms considering geometrically nonlinear deformations. By assembling pre-calculated nonlinear beam elements a new beam truss approach is introduced. The accuracy and quality of the mechanical model are verified by selected examples and compared to existing methods.

Abstract: The sliding cable structures have found its application in many practical structures, such as ski lifts, electrical transmission lines, and cable systems in the erection procedures of long-span bridges. This paper presents a method for modeling the cable sliding on a pulley or sheaves. “Sliding cable element” is developed to solve the general problem. Based on the foundational principles of finite element analysis, the relation of the forces in the element on equilibrium state is used. The computation is simplified by automatically adjusting the cable length on each side of a pulley or sheave in order to maintain equilibrium. The element models are implemented in a geometrically nonlinear, transient implicit finite element program. Several numerical examples are developed to validate the effective of the sliding cable element.

Abstract: Nonlinear finite element model analysis of the casing plug joints of steel tubular has been realized by ANSYS software. The law of load-carrying capability and stiffness of joint are separately gained by changing the ratio of length and diameter (R/L) and the ratio of the casing length and the main tube length (l/L). The influence of the casing thickness on the load-carrying capability and stiffness are also discussed. The results indicated that the load-carrying capability and stiffness of the joints both increase with the ratio(R/L) increment and the ratio of the casing length and main tube length (l/L). When the main tube thickness is equal to casing thickness, the load-carrying capacity of joints achieves the most.

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of the presence of transverse cracks in rotors. The dynamic response of the cracked rotor is evaluated by expanding the changing stiffness of the crack (i.e. the breathing mechanism) as a truncated Fourier series and then using the Harmonic Balance Method. The crack detection is based on the use of the 2X and 3X super-harmonic frequency components of the non-linear dynamical behaviour at the associated sub-critical resonant peaks. Various parametric studies including the effects of the crack depth and location, and the crack–unbalance interaction on the dynamic of a crack rotor are undertaken. It will be illustrated that the emerging of super-harmonic frequency components and/or antiresonances can provide useful information on the presence of cracks and may be used on an on-line crack monitoring rotor system for small levels of damage.

Abstract: Based on the wind tunnel experiment for aerostatic force of section model of Jianghai direct ship channel bridge of Hongkong-zhuhai-macau great bridge in construction stage, one calculation program considering the geometric nonlinearity and aerostatic nonlinearity is prepared by using ANSYS parametric design language in order to calculate the nonlinear aerostatic response for long-span cable-stay bridges. Then, the FEA model of Jianghai direct ship channel bridge of Hongkong-zhuhai-macau great bridge in construction stage is established to analyze the three-dimensional nonlinear aerostatic stability. And the aerostatic response with different position of bridge is also calculated. The research result indicates that the aerostatic instability can not occur in Jianghai direct ship channel bridge of Hongkong-zhuhai-macau great bridge in its construction stage. And, the max torsion deformation, transverse and vertical displacement of construction stage occur in the terminal edge of both left and right span and decreases gradually near to main tower.

Abstract: Reinforced concrete two-way slabs are widely used in industrial, civil, public buildings. However, the calculation method of curvature of deflection wasn’t clearly put forward in Code for design of concrete structures in China. Considering the nonlinear characteristics of concrete and bidirectional bending the formula of curvature deflection for reinforced concrete two-way slabs was derived based on plate theory in this paper. The iterative method is adopted in order to solve stress and strain of reinforced and concrete in reinforced concrete two-way slabs. The whole calculation process was realized by MATLAB software programming. The correctness of method in this paper was confirmed by comparing the results and the test data of the literature.
