Abstract: Bioethanol is mainly produced by sugar fermentation process. Due to global demand on energy for transportation and environmental concern, biofuels as renewable energy in replacing petrol, the non-renewable energy source, has come into picture. Utilization of lignocellulosic biomass such as woody biomass (trees), herbaceous biomass (grasses) and waste cellulosic materials (solid waste) could be used in replacing starch (such as corn and potato) as source of sugar in producing bioethanol. Recently, study on cellulosic ethanol was focussing on fermentation process using ethanologenic strain such as engineered Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Invasive method in the study during fermentation may lead to uncertain or unwanted screening strategies or metabolic pathways. This paper reviews about the online monitoring system used by researchers in order to study the growth kinetics of ethanologenic strain. Online monitoring system for the Oxygen Transfer Rate (OTR) and Carbon dioxide Transfer Rate (CTR) is found to be the important method to study kinetic model of ethanologenic strain, thus increasing metabolic yields with optimum design condition.

Abstract: In robotic GMA (Gas Metal Arc) welding process, heat and mass inputs are coupled and transferred by the weld arc and molten base material to the weld pool. The amount and distribution of the input energy are basically controlled by the obvious and careful choices of welding process parameters in order to accomplish the optimal bead geometry and the desired mechanical properties of the quality weldment. To make effective use of automated and robotic GMA welding, it is imperative to predict online faults for bead geometry and welding quality with respect to welding parameters, applicable to all welding positions and covering a wide range of material thickness. To successfully accomplish this objective, two sets of experiment were performed with different welding parameters; the welded samples from SM 490A steel flats adopting the bead-on-plate technique were employed in the experiment. The experimental results of current and voltage waveforms were used to predict the magnitude of bead geometry and welding quality, and to establish the relationships between weld process parameters and online welding faults. MD (Mahalanobis Distance) technique is employed for investigating and modeling of GMA welding process and significance test techniques were applied for the interpretation of the experimental data. Statistical models developed from experimental results which can be used to control the welding process parameters in order to achieve the desired bead geometry based on weld quality criteria.

Abstract: This paper focuses on the design and application of the composite submarine cable online monitoring system based on Brillouin optical time domain analysis (BOTDA). It introduces two concepts of the system: the BOTDA technology and the finite element modeling method. Using ideas of modular design, the team developed the PC software on LabWindows/CVI. At the end of the paper, it describes the application of the online monitoring system, and then analyzes the data returned from the system.

Abstract: In recent years, researching the stability of the CNC machining process is a hotpot in CNC industry. Based on cDAQ and labVIEW, online monitoring system is presented, meanwhile, both software structure and hardware structure are introduced in detail. Researches show that vibration and pressure are the main factors for the quality of the flatness. By studying the relative vibration between the spindle and the platform in the Z axis direction, as well as the shifty pressure that tool works on the flatness of the workpiece, four experiments are designed in this paper under different technological conditions including free moving, Axial Depth of cut, speed and feed speed, which verify the reliability of the online monitoring system.
