Abstract: To obtain the flexibility of choice of cutting tool and to compensate the wear of the cutting tool, this paper presents an interference-free toolpath generating method for multi-axis machining of a cylindrical cam. The notion of the proposed method is that the cutting tool is confined within the meshing element and the motion of the cutting tool follows the meshing element so that collision problem can be avoided. Based on the envelope theory, homogeneous coordinate transformation and differential geometry, the cutter location for multi-axis NC machining using cylindrical-end mill is derived and the cutting path sequences with the minimum lead in and lead out are planned. The cutting simulations with solid model are performed to verify the proposed toolpath generation method. It is also verified through the trial cut with model material on a five-axis machine tool.

Abstract: Tool path generation, post-processing and verification and simulation of NC program are key technologies which are investigated in this research for manufacturing impellers. Generation of tool path aims at producing the cutting tool path. Post-processing transforms the cutter location file (CLSF file) of the tool path to the NC code which NC machine can recognize. Verification and simulation of NC program aims at proving the accuracy of program, thus the interference and collision can be avoided. When tool path is planned, increasing the machining efficiency during the rough and semi-finish milling process is the main consideration. Increasing machining accuracy is an important consideration for final finish milling.

Abstract: A new tool path generation method based on cutter shaft tilt method was proposed for free-form surface machining by using Ball-end Cutter. Firstly, it introduces the processing quality problems caused by traditional ball-end mill processing. Then cutter shaft tilt was proposed to avoid the above questions. Analyzing the different machining efficiency at the different angle, and then cutter shaft tilt compensation method which based on above method could avoid that problem was proposed. After the paths calculation to a real surface and simulation, the result shows that, comparing to traditional machining method, the new method reduced efficiently phenomenon of extruding and scratching surface. It meets five-axis processing accuracy requirements.

Abstract: Generally, ball end mills are used for free-form surface machining. When machining curved surfaces with large curvature change using ball end mills, it is necessary to use tools with larger curvature of the cutting edges than the maximum curvature of the surface and minute pick feeds or to change tools for fitting the curvature of one part of the surface. However this causes poor machining efficiency. The curvature of the cutting edge of a flat end mill can be fitted to the curvature of a point on machined surfaces by adjusting the tool posture. Therefore, flat end mills can efficiently cut almost all curvature curved surfaces without tool change. This paper proposes two methods for deciding tool posture and tool path for 5-axis control machining based on minimum cusp height. To decide the tool path, one method defines tool paths along isoparametric curved lines, while the other defines tool paths along curved lines along the minimum curvature direction. The basic system was constructed based on the proposed method, and the effectiveness of the proposed method was verified.

Abstract: In this pape, we have researched the digital precision forming machine without pattern casting, and discussed the motion of the machine and tool path simulation technology based on VRML. By updating IndexedLineSet node, we have realized the real-time display of tool path; and by setting DOF node, we have simplified motion simulation of the machine, and completed the synchronous, real-time simulation for motion of the machine and display of the tool path. The final simulation result is approach to the actual operating status of equipment, and the application results are of great theoritical significance and practical application value to design optimization and operation training of the code.

Abstract: Aiming at the low machining accuracy, low efficiency, cumbersome programming process, strong empirism and great programming difficulty of special shape blades, a new NC spiral milling method of high-quality and high-efficiency is put forward to process aviation blades. Three methods of constructing spiral tool path are studied, i.e., constructing the spiral using interpolation in parametric domain, constructing the spiral based on a driving surface and projection technology, and segmentally constructing the spiral by plane intersection. By comparison and analysis, their advantages and disadvantages are presented. According to the characteristics of spiral milling, the principles and algorithms of interference-free cutter location calculation for space free-form curved surface are introduced and the focus is put on cutter contact point calculation algorithms.

Abstract: The shock wave and quasi-static state gas that were created by tradition block holing would influence the wall-rock and damage it in quarrying and cutting. For the purpose of the cutting level off and the scatheless wall-rock, the shaped charge was used for the inner cutting and quarrying in the paper. The simulation of the whole course of shaped change metal jet was performed by the ANSYS AUTODYN. The simulation shows: the top and bottom of the metal liner were collapsed slowly; the collapse velocity of the middle of liner was quicker, and a velocity gradient was formed, the focal point was the maximum velocity point. It could be concluded that the study could be used in the engineering design for stone inner cutting and the calculation of penetration parameters.

Abstract: NURBS curve fitting is used for tool path planning for sculptured surface NC machining. The cutter location data is parameterized by equal chord arc length parameterization, and Centripetal Parameterization is improved. It is not only more approach to curves nature equation in theory, but also closer to the interpolated curves in actual fitting. It is directly to reflect the curvature of curves of cutter location in NC machining.

Abstract: Five-axis CNC flank milling has recently received much attention in industry. Tool path planning is a critical issue in five-axis CNC flank milling operation. Previous work based on dynamic-programming generated optimal tool path by global minimising the machining error. However, global minimal machining error may not guarantee a local machining error controllable. Therefore, this paper proposes a method based on combination of global and local optimization, which makes tool path of five-axis flank milling optimal and error controllable. Oversize error of tool paths can be partially adjusted so that a specified tolerance is met in global optimization processing. Finally, the experiments of the simulative are made by this algorithm. The result verifies the feasibility and validity of the proposed scheme.
