Abstract: The collision detection problem is a classical problem in computer graphics research field. It has become a hot topic in recent years with the development of virtual assembly technology. And accurate collision detection is crucial to improve the reliability and authenticity of virtual assembly. In this paper, we designed a collision detection algorithm with a pre-segment strategy based on OBB-Tree algorithm, took advantage of the shape characteristics of component model, used a smaller bounding box for operation. Experimental results showed that the efficiency of the algorithm is about 10% higher than that of traditional OBB-Tree algorithm.

Abstract: In this paper, we present the design and implementation of a VRML multi-user layer, which is introduced in the virtual reality platform. A novel 3D simulation system supporting tunnel boring machine (TBM) design is developed. The virtual environment (VE) of the TBM is established by VRML based on virtual reality technology, the 3D assembling model is built by Solidworks software and changed into the virtual environment by VRML format. The optimal method is put forward by three steps optimization data to realize transmission of network. The motion simulation and virtual assembly program for TBM are made by VRML/Java language with the movement simulation control function to realize motion simulation. It has the advantages of free installation, authenticity, interactivity, low-cost, portability, and low requiring for the clients and so on.

Abstract: We had present a generic software framework introducing augmented reality technology into the virtual assembly system. The framework is built by the means of integrating OSG and osgART into the MFC application framework. On the basis, we developed an assembly operation system. We showcased the example applications, demonstrating the new possibilities created by augmented assembly.

Abstract: Virtual manufacturing technology has become an effective method for decision and planning in manufacturing. Due to ergonomics problems are widely concerned in assembly design planning, a human-centered virtual assembly system framework is proposed for ergonomics analysis for assembly operation in this paper. The six-layer framework integrates virtual human modeling, motion capture and recognition, ergonomics evaluation and virtual assembly process planning as an organic whole. Data exchanging and system function are discussed based on this framework. The work in virtual reality (VR) technology, motion capture technology, ergonomics method and optimization method for implementing the system is also described. The framework would provide a new approach for the combination of virtual manufacturing and ergonomics analysis in the future.

Abstract: Large-scale component assembly, such as the installation of aircraft wings and ship section etc., is usually high cost, long cycle. Virtual assembly simulation gives the possibility of direct and visual perceive of assembly before the actual assembly using digital prototype. A new virtual assembly model, called VAFM (Virtual Assembly Fat Model), is presented. It integrates not only geometry data, but non-geometry information is embedded. All information of model will evolve, mature and derived gradually, from thin to fat, during the whole assembly process. The paper gives the definition of a VAFM, its framework and the evolution rules of the fat model. Meanwhile the paper design the modeling language based XML. Finally, the visualization of VAFM is also presented..

Abstract: To solve the problem of lack of assemble knowledge in ship virtual assembly system, a novel rough-set theory based knowledge discovery model is studied to find the process knowledge hidden in virtual assembly. First the typical knowledge structure used in ship virtual assembly is analyzed and improved into a generalized definition using the object-oriented technology. The technology solution to develop knowledge discovery model for ship virtual assembly is proposed based on rough set theory. All the key technologies such as Petri-RS information transformation model, RS attribute reduction and knowledge management technologies are analyzed respectively for real engineering application. The developed knowledge discovery system of the ship virtual assembly can realize the data processing and mining, to discover useful assembly knowledge automatically. Further with an engineering example from virtual assembly in shipbuilding enterprises, this paper provides a technical solution to disvover useful assembly knowlege, reduce assembly time for ship building in real product line, to enhance production efficiency obviously.

Abstract: Towards the large models of complex industry products, parallel rendering is often adopted to increase the resolution, performance and scalability for 3D product visualization. In this paper, we are targeting the interactive visualization of the complex CRH3 product assemblies in a virtual environment. To render CRH3 model and assembly animation, a PC Cluster-Based sort-first parallel rendering system for virtual assembly is presented and some combined strategies are discussed. With this approach, our experimental results show that high resolution display and parallel speedup with relatively low overhead in CHR3 virtual assembly can be achieved.

Abstract: Due to the worldwide competition of manufacturing industry and the development of virtual reality (VR) technology, virtual assembly (VA) has attracted many researchers to reduce development cost and improve product quality. As a typical application of VR in engineering, VA has become increasingly important for modern industry. In this paper, a survey of research progress about VA is analyzed. The conception and architecture of VA are introduced at first, the classification is also presented, then the main research contents and key techniques are discussed, finally the limitations and future works are pointed out.

Abstract: Virtual Assembly (VA) is an advanced tool for assembly design. Current VA system lacks of intelligent decision support especially in assignment of assembly planning task. There are already some research to enhance the perception ability and intelligent support of VR. However, most of them are focusing on the auto mating or moving navigation, while the study on assembly task is few. The paper analyzed the task in virtual assembly and discussed the system level task as a main topic, which indicated that ‘work-flow’ was a suitably way to implement task aware. Therefore a BDI agent model for assembly task was proposed on the bases of work-flow and the architecture of it was given. After these, the reasoning mechanism was designed to support assembly task awareness.
