Abstract: nanoZrO2 was modified by styrene coupling grafting method and then used as an additive to improve the protective performance of epoxy coating. Two kinds of coatings, neat epoxy coating and nanoZrO2/epoxy coating, were prepared and applied on Q235 carbon steel plates. The plates were submitted to salt spray chamber and seawater immersion for 1000 hours to evaluate the corrosion protection performance for these two kinds of coatings. Tafel polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were determined to analyze the corrosion behavior of coating/metal system. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and photographs were carried out for morphology analysis of two kinds of coatings under different conditions. Results showed a superior stability and efficient corrosion protection by nanoZrO2 /epoxy coating. The modified nanoZrO2 could inhibit the penetration of corrosive media and then improve the corrosion protection of the epoxy coating on carbon steel.

Abstract: In this paper, fuzzy AHP to select the appropriate environment-friendly chemical mechanical polishing additives, and the rational design of the polish formulation. Practical application shows that the polish has a good anti-wear, the wear properties and anti-rust properties, stable performance ,and meets the needs of the chemical mechanical polishing, the rate of biodegradation more than 80%.

Abstract: Using additives to prevent retrogradation together with traditional Chinese fermentation technology for rice noodles and the steam sterilizing technique used in the preparation of Japanese wudo noodles, we have developed a novel processing technique which will be discussed in this report. The major changes in rice compositions during fermentation were compared, and the effects of various anti-retrogradation additives on the freshness of instant rice noodle during storage were also measured. The results showed that rice noodles produced by fermentation have a better texture and flavor than those which are not fermented; products which have been wrapped without the addition of any preservatives but which have been steam-sterilized at 90-95 °C for 30-25 min can be stored for 24 months without any deterioration; however, additives such as plant oil, konjac powder and potato starch etc. prevent retrogradation and insure that instant rice noodles remain fresh during storage; β-amylase has been found to be the most effective reagent in this respect.

Abstract: Concrete is very resistant to compression, although its tensile strength is limited and it is regarded as a brittle material. One way to overcome this problem is through the use of plasticizing additives, as well as the introduction of fibers in the cement matrix. The aim of this study is to determine changes in the mechanical tensile strength of concrete when substitutes are found for sand in the form of waste tire rubber, with the introduction of plasticizer additive properties. The analysis was conducted by carrying out a diametral compression test combined with digital image correlation to measure the displacement and strain fields obtained with the applied loads. It was observed from the stress and strain values obtained in these tests that there is a reduction in tensile strength. This is accompanied by an increase in composite deformability and a rise in the percentage of waste.

Abstract: The methansulfonate acid electrolyte is a new type of plating baths which has some advantages such as friendly to environment, stability and outstanding electrical conductivity. In this work, the effect of three organic additives (nonionic surfactant Triton X-100, a weak organic acid (additive A) and an organic sodium salt (additive B)) in stannous methanesulfonate baths on tin electrodeposits were studied by SEM and XRD. The results show that the Triton X-100 plays an important role in improving the coating qualities and promoting the densification of crystalline structure. Under the synergetic action of additive A and additive B in the presence of Triton X-100 a smooth, fine-grained matt tin coating which has certain preferred orientations of lattice plane, could be obtained on copper substrate.

Abstract: The thermo-physical properties of some varieties of sawdust and some additives are presented. They are thermal conductivity, heat capacity and specific gravity. The methods of investigation used are Lee’s Disc Apparatus, heat balance and gravimetric method respectively. The sawdust specimens were obtained from six varieties of wood. The additives employed on two typical sawdust samples are cement and silica clay. The values of thermal conductivity range between 0.440 and 0.204 W/m K, and heat capacity between 58,644.08 and 29,584 J/kg K. The highest specific gravity is 0.256 and the least value is 0.107. It was observed that as the clay content increases, specific gravity and the thermal conductivity also increases while the specific heat capacity decreases.

Abstract: Under the simulated thermal recovery condition, fundamental experiments were carried out in the high temperature high pressure reactor to study the aquathermolysis reaction of heavy oil using formic acid as hydrogen donor and oil-soluble organic home-made nickel salt as catalytic. Urea was selected optimally from the alternative chemical addictivess of ammonium carbonate, urea and ammonium hydrocarbonate and its dosage was 20wt%. The affect of the adding addictives in water for viscosity, group composition and element content of heavy oil during the hydrogen donor catalytic pyrolysis reaction, was researched. It was revealed that there mechanism in the heavy oil viscosity reduction reaction process. The addition of addictives had not only some degree of viscosity reduction function, but also synergistic interaction to the catalyzed reaction with hydrogen donor. Compared to the oil sample from reaction without addictives, there was no obvious change on group compositions, the contents of atom C, H, S, N and O nearly kept unchanged. the introduction of addictives basically did not change structure of heavy oil.

Abstract: In recent years there are efforts to use polymer nanofibers and their properties in polymer composites. The aim of such efforts is to develop composites with nanofibers fillers which would be able into a great extend to take advantage of any unique properties of polymer nanofibers. Such area of research belongs into the research project whose part is also to incorporate nanofibers and nanoparticles into composite with thermoplastic matrix. The important part of research represents also finding the suitable additives to ensure sufficient adhesion between filler and polymer matrix which is crucial for the final composite properties.
