Abstract: To study the relationship between the content of silver-plated fibers in fabrics and the antibacterial performance of fabrics, five sets of samples with common polyester yarns and silver-plated polyamide yarns were manufactured for the experiment; a qualitative antibacterial test with flask-shaking method was performed and compared for fabrics with different content of silver-plated fibers. The results show that the fabrics with silver-plated fibers have good antibacterial effect, and the bacterial inhibition rate will be improved as the content of silver-plated fibers increasing. When the content of silver-plated fibers is 3.6%, the bacterial inhibition rate for coli form will reach to 76.92%, when the content of silver-plated fibers is higher than 11.99%, the fabrics have better antibacterial property for coli form and the bacterial inhibition rate is higher than 99%.

Abstract: In order to determined the antibacterial property of Apocynum venetum. Three kinds of extractants (distilled water, 75% ethanol and absolute ethanol) were used to extract the leaf, stick and skin of Apocynum venetum, respectively. Flask and plate methods were used to evaluate the antibacterial property of these extracts on four kinds of classical microbiologies, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Aspergillus niger, respectively. The results showed that the antibacterial rate of extract by 75 % ethanol was better than extracts by water or absolute ethanol on Escherichia coli and skin contained more antibacterial substance (on Escherichia coli) than others. The antibacterial rate of extract by distill water was better than extracts by 75 % ethanol or absolute ethanol on Staphylococcus aureus and stick contained more antibacterial substance (on Staphylococcus aureus) than others. Some of extracts had very weak antibacterial rate on Saccharomyces cerevisiae and all extracts had not antibacterial effect on Aspergillus niger.

Abstract: Substances extracted from the scutellaria based on the boiled were introduced to make the cotton fabrics achieve a good antibacterial properties. Specifically, the orthogonal experiment was designed based on four factors such as the concentration of extraction (compared with the original extraction), temperature, pH and mordant dyeing methods. It is proved that the cotton fabrics in such conditions, for instance, the scutellaria concentration of extraction of 80%, pH value of 9, at 80°C and the media reprocessing, can acquire a good antibacterial properties, and the bacillus subtilis antibacterial rate can reach 86.69%. Simultaneously, the rate of antibacterial against escherichia coli can reach 74.77%. It can still keep a good antibacterial properties after three times washing and ten times washing, and the bacillus subtilis inhibition rate is approximately 84.73% and 72.37% respectively, and the E. coli antibacterial rate is approximately 70.78% and 64.27% respectively.

Abstract: Elimination of microorganisms from the root canal system and the prevention of subsequent reinfection are of importance for long-term endodontic treatment. The application of a sealer with antibacterial properties may reduce the reinfection and improve the success rate of the root filling treatment. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the antibacterial properties of a novel root canal sealer based on injectable self-curing polyurethane with silver phosphate (PU/Ag3PO4). The antibacterial abilities were assessed by direct contact test, anti-bacterial adhesion assay and bacteriostatic rate test. The results show that the fabricated PU/Ag3PO4 sealer can completely inhibit the bacterial growth and prevent bacterial adhension effectively. The bacteriostatic rate is 93.6% and 98.1% when the bacteria incubated with PU/Ag3PO4 sealer for 7 and 24h respectively. The strong antibacterial abilities suggest that PU/Ag3PO4 sealer has great application potential in the field of root canal filling.Key words: Root canal sealer, polyurethane, silver phosphate, antibacterial properties, direct contact test

Abstract: High purity Cadmium (Cd) metal was used as raw material and placed in a microwave susceptor. an evaporation/oxidation process occurs under exposure to microwave in less than 2 minutes. Then, Evaporated cadmium reacted with oxygen and cadmium oxide was collected on the inner surface of a glassy container that was placed a few centimeters above the susceptor. Morphological and structural information of As-synthesized CdO nanopowder, were investigated via SEM and X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy. The antibacterial activities of different concentration of the CdO nanoparticles were tested by treating Escherichia coli (Gram negative) cultures with CdO nanoparticles. The Study indicates that cadmium oxide nanoparticles show effective antibacterial activity toward the gram-negative bacterium E. coli. Electrochemical properties of as-synthesized powder were investigated via linear and two vertex cyclic voltammetery in the presence of ethanol, a pair of Oxidation/reduction peaks were achieved.

Abstract: Antibacterial polyester (PET) fibers with high electric conductivity were introduced by pretreatment-free electro-less silver plating in this study. The PET fibers were modified with the amide-siloxane film before silver coating, which was proved by the ATR-FTIR spectra, energy dispersive X-Ray (EDX) analysis and thermo-gravimetric (TG) analysis, respectively. Uniform and compact silver-coated film was found on the surface of PET fibers, evidenced by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). With 16% silver loading, the results indicted that silver-coated fibers have high electric conductivity (2.66Ω/cm) and exhibit strong antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli (with 6.5 mm inhibition ring).

Abstract: The bamboo pulp fiber fabric was treated by chitosan with low molecular weight in aqueous citric acid. The effect of citric acid concentration, chitosan concentration, treatment time and reaction temperature on anti-creasing and mechanical properties of the fabric were studied, respectively. Meanwhile, the optimal finishing condition was obtained. The anti-wrinkle and hygroscopic properties of all processed fabrics improved markedly at the optimal technology. However, the breaking strength of the fabric decreased slightly after the optimal treatment. FT-IR characterization of the treated fabric showed that the chitosan was crosslinked on the bamboo pulp fiber fabric and the ester linkage was formed between the citric acid and bamboo pulp cellulose. The antibacterial property of the chitosan treated fabric increased dramatically. The resulting bamboo pulp fiber fabric treated by chitosan is a natural ecological textile product, having the various application and more potential chemical modification.
