Abstract: A new glass-ceramic coating material on nickel based super alloy substrate had been found, the glass¬-ceramic coating material was developed from a glass based on MgO–Al2O3–TiO2 system. The coating material was characterized through X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), hardness, thermal expansion coefficient testing. XRD analysis of the coating materials and the resultant coatings showed presence of a number of microcrystalline phases. SEM micrographs indicated microstructure of the material. Optical micrographs showed smooth glossy impervious free surface with defects. Hardness analysis showed the glass-ceramic coating material had higher microhardness. The thermal expansion coefficient of the nimonic alloy was much higher compared to the coating material at specific temperature.

Abstract: Objective: To identify and testify the cytotoxicity of the EGFR targeting drug TGFa-SAP conjugated and synthesized with N-succinimidyl-3 (2-pyridyldithio) propionate on human hepatoma cell line BEL-7404 cells and proliferating vascular smooth muscle cells. Methods: Conjugation of saporin with TGFa was accomplished after derivatization of TGFa and saporin with N-succinimidyl-3 (2-pyridyldithio) proprionate and the purification of the conjugate was achieved through Eppendorf Centrifugal Filter. Cytotoxicity assays were measured by MTS assays. The value of Thymidine incorporation in BEL-7404 cells was measured by 3H-thymidine uptake. Results: Cytotoxicity assays testified that TGFa-SAP conjugate could remarkably inhibit the proliferation of human hepatoma cell line BEL-7404 cells in vitro. The value of thymidine incorporation of BEL-7404 cells in TGFa-SAP groups significantly decreased compared with the control group (P<0.05), and it had dose-dependence on TGFa-SAP’s concentration. But Saporin could not affect BEL-7404 cells even at higher level (10-5). TGFa-SAP conjugate had effective cytotoxicity on proliferating vascular smooth muscle cells, also. Conclusion: The results indicated that the conjugated EGFR targeting drug TGFa-SAP had effective cytotoxicity not only on BEL-7404 cells, but also on proliferating vascular smooth muscle cells, as a potential bioactive stent coating material.

Abstract: Dammar plant resin is a local natural resin that can be bled from Dipterocaupacea sp of tree. It can be found abundantly in Malaysia’s tropical forest especially in Sarawak. Dammar and Titanium Dioxide was mixed in a various wt% to produce Dammar-modified Titanium Dioxide coating system. The modified coating systems were then spin-coated onto Aluminium Q-panel as the substrate. Coated Q-panels were left to cure at room temperature. The curing time was evaluated using dust free stage. The addition of Titanium Dioxide into the coating system fastens the curing time taken for the coated Q-panel to be cure. It only took about 11-12 minutes to dry compared to the coating system before the addition of Titanium Dioxide where a quite long duration required, 32 minutes. Contact angle measurement was also carried out in order to determine the wettability of the coating system. The surface coated with dammar-modified titanium dioxide found to be hydrophobic where a quite large contact angle obtained for the sample with 3 wt% of Titanium Dioxide (PDT3). The water droplets actually rest on the coating surface without wetting the surface. Water absorption test was done to strengthen the contact angle results where coated substrate was soaked into distilled water for 24 hours and being weighed before and after soaking. The difference of before and after soaking weigh showed that the coating surface does not absorb that much water where only approximately 0.02% of water being absorbed by the coating system for 3 wt%. It proved that the coating systems applied are hydrophobic.

Abstract: In this paper, a piezoelectric quartz crystal (PQC) sensor has been developed with a coating material of N, N, N’, N’-tetrakis (2-hydroxyethyl) ethylenediamine (THEED). The active compound was selected from fifty-one adsorptive coating materials and was the most efficient one for sensing of carbon dioxide gas. The coated PQC sensor possessed an excellent linear response range of 0.3738 ~ 31.85% with a sensitivity of 53.81 Hz/% to CO2 gas after coating with 91.62 μg of THEED. The detection limit for CO2 gas could reach 100.0 ppm. The sensor also possessed good reproducibility and stability. There were no significant interferences from other gases dissolved in transformer oil such as carbon monoxide, hydrogen, methane, ethane, ethylene, and ethyne. The THEED coated PQC sensor has been successfully applied to the determination of CO2 samples dissolved in transformer oil, showing its promising application for generation set’s safety evaluation in power industry.

Abstract: A type of wear resistance coating material composed by ternary-boride-based (TBB) cermet coating and steel 65Mn substrate has been developed successfully by in-situ reaction synthesis. The TBB cermet coating has been formed by the in-situ reactions among the mixed raw metal powders during the process of casting. Microstructure has been studied using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results show that the main composition of the coating is ternary boride base hard phase Mo2FeB2 and ferrous base binder phase α-Fe, both of them distribute uniformly in the coating. There is element diffusion in the interface of coating and steel substrate. The bonding at the interface of coating and steel substrate is excellent which has been confirmed by the three-point bend tests.

Abstract: The problem of a normal force acting in the thin layer of semi-infinite coating materials has been studied by adopting the image point technology in this paper. The explicit fundamental solution is given in the series of the displacement functions corresponding to each image point. The displacement functions corresponding to the higher order image points can be determined from those to the lower ones by the recurrence formula presented in this paper. Numerical analysis by means of the finite element method has been carried out to verify the theoretical results. It is found that the accurate enough theoretical solution can be obtained by only taking the displacement functions corresponding to the first several image points into account.

Abstract: In this work, the spatial theoretical solutions of concentrated normal forces acting in the substrate and at the interface of semi-infinite coating materials have been deduced based on the image point method. The explicit solution is given in the series of the displacement functions corresponding to each image point. It is found that all displacement functions can be deduced by the order of the image point. Numerical analysis has been carried out to verify the theoretical deductions. It is found that the accurate enough theoretical solution can be obtained by only taking the displacement functions corresponding to the first several image points into account. The fundamental solutions for a concentrated force acting at interface of two bonded semi-infinite bodies is also deduced, which is necessary in the analysis of coating materials by using these theoretical solution as the fundamental solution.

Abstract: Machining of complex shape and deep micro cavity in die and mold is mostly carried out by electrical discharge machining process. However, it may not be able to sufficiently meet delivery deadline minimization and cost reduction of die and mold. Therefore, precision machining method using small radius ball end mill capable of machining deep cavities in miniature die and mold is proposed as a substitute for electrical discharge machining. This report presents such a result supported by experiment in which it has been proved that long tool life of ball end mill can be maintained by changing coating material and edge profile of small radius ball end mill experiencing form accuracy and get needed surface finish in workpiece. Therefore, for precision machining of die and mold as substitute for electrical discharge machining, it is proposed to perform deep precision machining using small radius ball end mill. This paper shows effect proved by experiment how cutting characteristics which occur by changing of coating material and edge profile of small radius ball end mill influence form accuracy and finishing surface of workpiece.
