Abstract: The increased role of knowledge in the economics, the growth of the role of education and innovations caused the necessity to revise the role of the basic subjects in the market (the government, business structures, universities) and mechanisms of their interaction. The primary importance is now being shifted towards such subjects of innovations as resource centers, innovative businesses, technological platforms, the clusters capable of exerting efficient influence upon the innovations process, which, in its turn, improves the competitive ability of particular spheres of business and entire national economics. This process also influenced the construction industry. The purpose of this research is to analyze the manifestation of the phenomenon of the knowledge-based economics in the construction sphere. The tasks of this research: firstly, to highlight the evolution of the scientific discipline “knowledge-based economics”; secondly, to analyze the efficiency of the phenomenon on the example of the USA, the EC and Russia; thirdly, to analyze the innovative process in the construction sphere; fourthly, to highlight the role of various institutional structures (resource centers, innovative businesses, technological platforms, clusters) for innovative activity in the construction sphere.

Abstract: This paper presents our concepts and initial investigation of a novel construction automation approach using a new layered fabrication process called Contour Crafting (CC). The process aims at automated construction of whole houses as well as sub-components. The potential of CC became evident from the initial investigations and experiments with various materials and geometries. Using this process, a single house or a colony of houses, each with possibly a different design, may be automatically constructed in a single run. CC uses computer control to take advantage of the superior surface forming capability of trowels to create large intricate structures with smooth and accurate surfaces.

Abstract: The developmental trend of the future cities is to create a low-carbon and energy-saving city, and the development will boost the design of current residential community planning. By a case study of Yilongwan Community in Changzhi City, technical requirements for construction of low-carbon ecological community are analyzed from the aspects of planning and layout, landscape construction and low-carbon technology in this paper. The analysis presents some shortages in the construction and they are described in details by this paper. Finally, the development strategy is proposed in this paper.

Abstract: We adopt the supporting scheme of soil nailing wall by comparison and selection combining engineering geological conditions and surrounding buildings load situations. And introduce focally its supporting principles and major parameters and main construction points. The scheme meets the engineering requirements proved by the construction acceptance inspection with its safe and rational design and construction convenience.

Abstract: A long lasting project, quality is priority. The quality directly determines the success of project. The excellence of a building quality is not only the pulchritude of a countrys construction, but also the guarantee of safety of life and wealth. However, due to non-standardizing of construction market and disarray of internal management, the quality accident often occurred. This paper, based on engineering practice in projects, analyzes causes for common construction quality accident from design, materials construction supervision and some other factors, puts forward some typical engineering examples, and offers corresponding preventive measures to reduce the occurrence of construction quality accident.

Abstract: In the last 20 years, China has been in the radical change of urbanization. The cities have been growing fast through continual construction and demolition. This research focuses on the development of several cities in Southern Yangtze of China to investigate the change of the residents in their lifestyle, living attitude during the “demolition’’ and “construction” in the perspective of urban plan and environmental design. Through the experiments of design projects in urban plan and environmental design, solutions would be found for those disharmony problems occurred during the transition process of “demolition” and “construction”. The proposals, from both the tangible and intangible points of view, would be developed for the development of the cities and regroup of residents, as well as the reconstruction of new communities with extension of traditional custom.

Abstract: This paper summarizes research done on mine tailings management and explores new trends in the sustainable re-use of these tailings in construction activities. It is concluded that no research to date had addressed the issue of using hardened mine tailings as construction materials for temporary access unpaved roads in cold climates.

Abstract: Soil-cement bricks are good examples of environmentally friendly products. This brick is the combination of soil with compacted cement with no combustion in its production. In this work the physical chemical characteristics of the soil from Piaui for producing this material were investigated. Samples of the soil were collected in three potteries from the county of Bom Jesus and pH analysis were carried out, as well as the rate of organic matter, texture, particle density, limits of liquidity and plasticity rates. The results have shown that the soils have acid tones (pH 5,49 a 6,11), which can be neutralized by adding cement, and organic matter percentages up to 1%. The samples have shown predominantly clay-rich textures with adequate plasticity limits, however, values of liquidity limits and particle density above recommended. Altogether, these soils tend to present viability concerning soil-cement brick production, provided that corrections with additives are made in order to minimize this effect.
